Texas Woman Seeks Asbestos Compensation from 17 Companies

April 16, 2011

Jefferson County, TX A Texas woman is blaming 17 companies for a man's asbestos death after he allegedly worked around asbestos-containing products manufactured by the firms, the Southeast Texas Record reports.

According to the news provider, Cecilia Ann Comeaux filed the lawsuit on April 1 in Jefferson County District Court claiming Charles Lee Comeaux died from an asbestos-related disease.

Prior to his death, Charles reportedly filed an asbestos lawsuit, but Cecilia's complaint claims that Charles died of a different asbestos-related disease than what was included in the initial suit.

Some of the companies named in the asbestos lawsuit include American Optical Corp., Chevron, Exxon Mobil Corp., and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., according to the news provider.

Cecilia claims that the companies were responsible for Charles's development of the asbestos-related disease because they did not properly test their products or warn of the dangers of asbestos exposure, according to the lawsuit.

Exposure to asbestos has been proven to cause a range of deadly diseases such as lung cancer, asbestosis and malignant mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer.
